Per Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun, friends of the Baun family have learned of the passing of legendary Leafs defenseman Bob Baun on Monday evening at the age of 86.
Baun, a Maple Leaf from 1956 through 1967 and then again from 1970-1973, was as tough and as durable as they came during his day, despite standing just 5'9. Baun won 4 Stanley Cups with the Maple Leafs during his time and was responsible for the game-winning goal in Game 6 back in 1964, which secured the Leafs' third consecutive Stanley Cup. What's even more impressive is that he did so on a broken ankle. Baun was also a member of the 1967 Maple Leafs team who had won the last Cup in franchise history.
Through his 964 career NHL games, Baun tallied 37 goals and 187 assists, totaling 224 points. He also racked up an astounding 1,491 career penalty minutes. Baun would also add 15 points in 96 playoff games, racking up another 165 penalty minutes in the postseason.
Our deepest and most sincere condolences go out to the Baun family, his friends, teammates and the Leafs organization. Tough week to be a Leafs fan.
