In the latter's case, with the Vancouver Canucks being in a position to deal and Boeser's rumoured interest in a fresh start in another NHL market, there have been a few interesting matches mentioned in the last week or so. During a national broadcast last week, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman revealed that he felt as though Brock Boeser and the Washington Capitals could make sense. This weekend, he elaborated on that comment, mentioning a Caps player who could act as the centerpiece of a deal for Boeser.
Per Friedman, the Caps could look to deal forward Anthony Mantha in a deal for Boeser. He mentions that Mantha has not been an ideal fit for Washington after the Caps swung a deal to acquire him from the Detroit Red Wings sending Jakob Vrana back the other way during the 2020-21 season. He also mentioned that Mantha is someone the Canucks could be interested in, given the fact that his cap hit ($5.7M) is lower than Boeser's and he only has one year left on his deal as opposed to two, so if Mantha doesn't quite fit in Vancouver, they'll either be able to trade him or just allow him to walk a year sooner than Boeser's contract would expire.
It's certainly something to watch, as Vancouver and Washington are currently both outside of the playoff picture looking in. A move such as this one could help spark both teams.
Boeser currently has 4 goals and 16 points in 22 games, while Mantha has scored 7 goals and racked up 15 points in 29 games.
