Chris Johnston was on TSN1050 this afternoon and said that the Leafs could be interested in Senators' goalie Matt Murray. Murray has 2 years left at $6.25M per season, which would not help the Leafs' cap situation at all. However, Murray is a buyout candidate in Ottawa as they seem to be willing to hand the starting job to Anton Forsberg after he performed well for them with Matt Murray on LTIR most of the season.
Given his injury and that the Sens are a budget team, a buyout makes sense here as the Sens would rather use the money they are paying an unplayable asset for players that can help the team. The Sens would save $5M over the course of the buyout which would help them pay serviceable players.
The other option is for the two teams to swap goalies with the Leafs sending Petr Mrazek to Ottawa providing them with a serviceable backup (when healthy) and possibly have the Sens or a third team retain some of Murray's salary in exchange for a future pick or a prospect. There is a Sault Ste Marie connection with Murray and Dubas, so it wouldn't be overly surprising to see Dubas bring in Murray to attempt to revitalize his career.
