NHL Insider Chris Johnston made an appearance on TSN1050's OverDrive and dove into some of the upcoming decisions the Leafs have to make regarding their roster. He mostly discussed the bottom six and how the Leafs are going about determining who stays and who will be placed on waivers.

CJ said that the bottom six comes down to who stands out the most to earn those jobs, stating that he believes that Zach Aston-Reese should be signed in the coming days. He explained that it's not a decision about cap space, more about versatility. Not only did he mention versatility, but it would also depend on injuries to begin the season - specifically Pierre Engvall and John Tavares. It wasn't the comments about Aston-Reese that were most interesting though. He also touched on Pontus Holmberg and why he is still in camp. CJ believes that Holmberg will start the year with the team due to his ability to play center.

"If he keeps making a good impression he has a chance to make the big club to start the year. It'll be hard to stay up once Tavares and company come back but he's kind of ripped up the (depth) charts."

Robertson still has a chance to make the team, but as was mentioned on the weekend, Robertson being waiver-exempt could result in him being sent down to prevent the Leafs from losing someone else on waivers, but with the way he's been playing, there's a pretty good chance that he makes the team as well.
