A lot has been made of the Montreal Canadiens' decision to select Juraj Slafkovsky over Shane Wright in July's draft, but according to NHL legend Jaromir Jagr, the decision was a good one and had Slafkovsky not been draft eligible, he would have pursued bringing him to Kladno himself.

Jagr revealed on Tuesday that before the draft, he saw a clip of Slafkovsky working along the boards and it had reminded him a lot of himself and the way he played when he was at the top of his game. Jagr said it was at that moment that he wanted to recruit Slafkovksy into the top Czech league. He also admitted to being disappointed when he found out Slafkovsky was draft-eligible.

Jagr is still the NHL's 2nd-leading scorer behind only "The Great One", Wayne Gretzky. His 1921 points may be almost 1000 behind Gretzky, but he's renowned as one of the very best players to ever play the game - and he's still playing pro hockey even at 50. He's like a modern-day Mr. Hockey. Jagr also sits 4th all time on the NHL goals list, behind only Gretzky, the aforementioned Gordie Howe and Alexander Ovechkin.

If Jagr is this high on Slafkovsky, perhaps the Habs were onto something when they used the top pick of the 2022 draft on the big Slovak winger.
