NHL officials screw the Leafs yet again with game-altering missed call after Bruins goalie appears to throw his stick

The officials are showing their incompetence yet again, this time in a game between the Leafs and Bruins at TD Garden in Boston. During the first period, Mitch Marner found himself the beneficiary of a quality scoring chance. However, as Marner tried to patiently out-wait goaltender Linus Ullmark, the Bruins netminder appears to throw his stick out of desperation, which is an automatic penalty - except the officials did not make the call.

Unfortunately, Marner does not convert on his chance and, as you might expect, the play went the other way, resulting in a Bruins goal. Now, there's an argument to be made that maybe the stick slipped or maybe Ullmark let go to try to catch the puck as it came across. To me, it's a little convenient that his stick flies in the direction of the puck carrier.

This play not be as egregious as some of the other non-calls we've seen in recent weeks, but in my mind at least, this is a penalty and simply has to be called. The Leafs should have gone to the power play and had a chance to extend their lead on the road in Boston. Instead, the Bruins were able to tie the game at 1-1 and take some of the pressure of playing from behind off. That's a game-altering play.
