Two years later and it's still a subject of debate.
The NHL Breakers account on Instagram posted today about what current rules for the league some players would like to see changed. It stated that several NHLers want the league to abolish its dress codes entirely.
It is known that management can relax the dress code for their team within limits. Last fall, this was seen when the Arizona Coyotes were the only NHL team to relax its dress code fully. The Leafs acted similarly soon after, with their dress code being settled to business casual instead of the typical suit and tie.
Unfortunately, the Leafs business casual dress code didn't even last a month.
In an interview with Sportsnet's Christine Simpson last November, Auston Matthews explained that Kyle Dubas had the regular dress code put back in place after the buds lost four games in a row. You can watch that interview here:
There has been no word yet on whether or not any teams will be switching up their dress code for the upcoming season, but it's clear there are some guys around the league who want that to happen.
