The NHL was in Vegas yesterday as part of their annual NHL/NHLPA media tour. Part of the day included Deputy Commissioner Bull Daly speaking to reporters about all things NHL.

One of the items that was brought up was regarding the always laughable Arizona Coyotes and the future of their new arena. As everyone knows at this point, the Coyotes will be playing at the newly built Arizona State University until 2024 when their new arena in Tempe is expected to be completed. However, Daly surprised a few people when he said the Coyotes could be there longer, until 2025 as a "worst case scenario".

That means the Coyotes could play the majority of the next four seasons at ASU (2022/23, 23/24, 24/25 and 25/26). Certainly not what the NHL wants given the Coyotes AHL team plays in an arena with double the capacity as Mullett Arena. Arizona announced that ticket revenue is up 50% for their debut season at ASU, but that isn't hard to do when you raise prices and fail to sell out an 18,000,seat arena regularly.
