The goal for Robertson, per his comments on Wednesday, were to lock down a spot in the Leafs' lineup. Once he steps foot on NHL ice, he has no plans of going back down to the AHL. He even revealed that he bulked up in the offseason, coming into this part of the year at 185 lbs.
Well, Robertson has picked up right where he left off last season, when he scored 28 points in 28 AHL games. During the 2nd period of this evening's game against the Dallas Stars prospects, Robertson took the puck from along the wall, cutting to the middle of the ice and absolutely ripped one home from just above the hashmarks. It was a thing of beauty.
Doing this against other prospects is one thing. If Robertson can do this against bigger, quicker and nastier players in the NHL, it won't take long for people to recognize that he belongs there.
