I mean.. where to start with this one.. The Leafs will know Matthews' plan before the 2023/24 season begins and should he let them know he's going to walk, expect the Leafs to enter into a Matthew Tkachuk situation where they look to deal Matthews ahead of July 1st, before the final year of his deal kicks in. Secondly, Matthews has on multiple occasions stated that he loves Toronto - the team, the coaches, the management, the facilities - and that there's no better place to play.
It's a tad ironic how fans of other Canadian teams, including some reporters, say that the Leafs get all the media coverage, yet at the same time, even when there is no news about the Leafs they choose to stir the pot and bring the Leafs into any and every discussion.
This one truly is a head-scratcher and doesn't make much sense other than to give a reporter with nothing to report to get his clicks. Since the Leafs seem to be the low-hanging fruit for every other team in the league to pick at, I suppose we shouldn't be surprised that everyone's turning to the hockey mecca to generate their traffic.
