Then, Jon Cooper answered a single question where he gave a two minute answer before deciding not to actually say anything at all. But, you knew it was nice guy Jon Cooper speak for "The refs and this league keep finding ways to blow more and more important moments, and I'm tired of it."
At first, everyone coming out of it seemed confused. But, it wasn't long before everyone figured out what he was talking about. If you look in the tweet above, MacKinnon is just arriving at the bench and is who Kadri came on the ice for. Meaning the Avs had 6 players on the ice from the time Kadri got on the ice, to right up until the goal is scored. Even the game sheet afterward initially listed 6 players on the ice at the time the goal was scored, though that was a separate bit of incompetence that showed Erik Johnson's #6 on the ice.
The NHL very rarely comes out and admits mistakes and publicly reprimands refs, and stood by this one.
Why, in 2022, have we still decided it's okay to review an offside or a kick for 20 minutes, but not a puck out of play or a team having too many men on the ice? They have no problem taking an embarrassing amount of time arguing in a war room over what a kicking motion is and changing that on a night to night basis, but have no time to try and rectify non subjective, blatant rule violations. If I was a betting man, I'd take the prop bet on the lightning getting a make up call or two in Game 5.
