While the end result was not the desired one, the Leafs did have a chance to see rookie Nick Robertson skating in the top-six alongside captain John Tavares and winger William Nylander - and the kid did not disappoint in his audition there.
The 20-year-old sniper recorded his first career NHL goal (regular season) during a second period surge by the Leafs that saw the club climb back from a 3-1 deficit to carry a 4-3 lead into the third period. While the end result was not a favourable one for the Buds, Nick Robertson's individual performance was very good.
Head coach Sheldon Keefe and the coaching staff were so impressed with Robertson's performance on Saturday that the Pasadena, California native appeared to earn yet another promotion within the lineup on Sunday.
With Robertson earning a look with the team's second power play unit, it gives the Buds yet another shooting threat to do some damage with the man advantage. We know that Robertson possesses an NHL-caliber shot, and with more open ice to work with on the power play, this could be the push that Robertson needs to really begin to take off and ramp up his production.
