Nick Robertson leaves game after taking a high hit
Nick Robertson can't catch a break. At one point, he was the Leafs' best prospect and was projected to be a top 6 forward. His lethal shot and impressive work ethic both on and off the ice had fans excited for the former 2nd round pick. After suffering severe knee, leg and shoulder injuries, all we have to hope for now is a healthy season out of the now 22-year-old.
Unfortunately, it looks like Robertson's horrific injury luck is continuing. After scoring 5 points in his first 2 games with the Toronto Marlies this season, Robertson looked to be first in line should the Leafs have need of a winger. In the second period of the Marlies Saturday night showdown with the Charlotte Checkers, Robertson was caught up high by a late hit and stayed down on the ice. He was able to leave under his own power, but immediately went to the dressing room.
The good news is, Robertson was able to return to the Marlies' bench afterwards. If his first two games with the Marlies this season were any indication, this kid will be an NHL player. The question is, should the Leafs keep working on what has now become a reclamation project, or try to move on and move him to a team with room for him in their top six. I believe they will give him this one last season, if he can't stay healthy and break into the NHL, they'll be forced to explore trade options, even if they have to sell low.
