It appears that the Leafs may have an inside path to landing the former Norris Trophy winner and defensive stalwart. Speaking on the Fan590 Morning Show today, Frank Seravalli mentioned that he believes Giordano's first choice is to play in Toronto.
It's unclear what the asking price is for Giordano (it is rumoured to have originally been a first round pick) but it would not be surprising to see one of Holl or Dermott be sent to Seattle along with a pick or two depending on Seattle retaining salary or not. Adding Giordano to the back end would give the Leafs what could be their best defensive line up in years with pairs potentially looking like this:
Rielly - LyubushkinGiordano - BrodieMuzzin - SandinDermott/Holl - Liljegren
Talk about depth and balance. The Leafs would essentially have a puck-moving defenseman and steady stay-at-home presence on each pairing with Muzzin and Brodie being the likely shutdown pairing. Having this kind of defense corps is something Leafs fans have been wanting for years and it seems to be coming that much closer to a reality.
