Nylander breaks his silence on contract negotiations, says there have been no recent talks with Leafs
There's been a ton of dialogue surrounding William Nylander this summer and whether or not he'll sign, enter the season without an extension in place or perhaps even be moved to another team. As far as what Nylander wants, he made it very clear to the media today that he wants to be in Toronto.
Several media members were in Stockholm, Sweden on Wednesday as a part of the European Media Tour. NHL.com's Tom Gulitti took to social media this afternoon to share what Nylander had to say about his current contract status, where his head is at right now ahead of the season and whether or not he had had any preliminary contract conversations with Kyle Dubas before his departure from the organization back in May.
"For me, the contract, obviously, I want it to work where I can stay [in Toronto] and be there. There's no other place I want to play, but I still have one more year left. I don't understand why there's such a big rush to do something right now. I still have one more year left. I want to be in Toronto as long as I can. That's just where my mind is at." - Nylander on where he wants to be moving forward
"They had been talking, but I don't think there's been much going on [with contract talks]. But I'm just focused on getting ready for the season and having my best season yet in order to help us take the next step, too. It would be fun if it would be done, but it's not like that where my focus is at. I'm just ready to have the best season yet and [the extension] will take care of itself when it's ready to happen, so I'm not worried about it." - Nylander on contract talks and what he's focused on at the moment

Nylander also mentioned that the topic had never even been discussed with Kyle Dubas before his departure, confirming that there were no preliminary discussions about a potential contract extension had Dubas stuck around.
If Nylander does enter this season without a contract extension in place, I'm sure there will be quite the stir in the media from the start of training camp straight through until he finally puts pen to paper on his new deal.
