One potential candidate to step in and take on the burden of replacing Kane's production, according to TSN's Mike Johnson, could be St. Louis Blues winger Vladimir Tarasenko. Johnson revealed on Monday that the Oilers had a need for another top six winger even when Kane was healthy. Now, with his injury, it may expedite the need to make a move, identifying Tarasenko as a prime candidate.
Tarasenko is one of the few Blues players who is still fairly productive, even with their horrendous start and lack of goal production. Through 14 games this season, Tarasenko has amassed 4 goals and 7 assists for 11 points.
Last season, Tarasenko posted a career-best 82 points in 75 games, including 34 goals. He posted the 2nd best shooting percentage of his career last season, shooting 14.8%. His sophomore season in 2013-14 was the only other season in his career where he exceeded that shooting percentage, with 15.44%. As a comparison, Auston Matthews' career shooting percentage is 16.1%.
