One Leafs superstar very excited to play with Max Domi
After a quiet Canada Day, the Toronto Maple Leafs secured two massive signings on the 2nd of July as they lured both Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi to Toronto. These were by far 2 of the bigger names left on the market and both were signed to one-year deals.
In Bertuzzi and Domi, the Leafs get two top-6 forwards to slide into their lineup, make the team tougher to play against and gives them one of their better setups in years. The Domi signing was a long-time coming and being the son of the former fan-favourite, Tie Domi, Max will have every opportunity to cement his own legacy in Toronto.
Mitch Marner is one player in particular who is very excited about the chance to play with Domi after their time in London in the OHL.
The two played together in 2013-14 and 2014-15 and were an inseparable pair. Domi scored 34 goals and 93 points in 61 games in 2013-14 to Marner's 13 goals and 59 points in 64 games (his first year in the OHL). The following year, Marner erupted for 44 goals and 126 points in just 63 games to Domi's 32 goals and 102 points in 57 games.
Following the announcement that Domi had signed in Toronto, Marner took to Instagram and posted a picture of the two of them celebrating a goal from their days with the London Knights on his story with the caption "Let's go baby!!!". Needless to say, Marner is quite excited.
If Domi and Marner can recreate some of the magic they had in their OHL day within the confines of the Scotiabank Arena, it could make for a deadly trio if they slot Matthews down the middle. However, the allure of an all London Knights line in Domi/Tavares/Marner certainly has its allure as well.
