Losing a hockey game is always tough. Losing one by three goals? Even tougher. Losing one to your most heated division rival, whose roster is mostly comprised of AHLers and losing by three goals? That's just embarrassing. That was the scenario that the Ottawa Senators faced last night and, after the loss, star forward Drake Batherson let the embarrassment show in a post-game interview.
"It's a little disappointing. It's a full barn out there and you want to come down and win for them. I come from a small town and know how much it means to these kids to come out and see an NHL game. We wanted to come down and get a win."
-Batherson on the Sens dropping one to a Leafs roster largely comprised of depth players and minor leaguers
The 24-year-old should definitely feel the disappointment after that one. When your team has multiple star forwards playing (Tkachuk, Batherson, Stutzle, Chabot) and can't steal one from a bunch of AHLers, you would certainly hope they'd feel embarrassed. Although it is only the preseason, the Sens will have to treat this one like a regular season loss. Put it in the rearview mirror and focus on the next one.
