With plays like this one, it's no wonder why the NHL General Managers have discussed the League's officiating at length during the GM's meetings that kicked off on Monday.

During a Monday meeting between the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes, an Alex Ovechkin goal was called back due to a slashing penalty against teammate T.J. Oshie for slashing the stick out of the hands of Carolina's Jordan Staal. The real story, though, was the official refusing to call a penalty on Carolina first.

The evidence is damning here. Not to sound like a broken record, but the NHL officials need to be held accountable or, at the very least, they need to be made available to the media following the games to answer questions and provide their rationale behind not making certain calls, but making calls on subsequent, less egregious plays.

Obviously, Oshie was irate after the call. It's sort of tough to plead your case to someone who clearly isn't listening.
