Patrice Bergeron voices his displeasure with Bruins singing controversial prospect Mitchell Miller
The Bruins absolutely took over social media yesterday for all of the wrong reasons following the signing of Mitchell Miller. Miller was initially a 4th round pick by the Coyotes in the 2020 draft before they renounced the pick after learning how severe the bullying he committed was.
Just a short 2 years later and the Bruins had to give him maximum bonuses and salary in his entry level contract to outbid numerous teams. The signing has not sat well with anyone, including Bruins Captain Patrice Bergeron.
Bergeron, one of the most respected players in the game, with an NHL record 5 Selke trophies sat down with Elliotte Friedman Friday evening as the Bruins prepared to take on the Leafs today. "That was the first thing that, I guess, came out of my mouth. [Signing Miller] goes against what we are as a culture and as a team, and for me as a person," said Bergeron.
How can a team with such a well-respected captain, sign a player like Miller after management discussed it with the team? Particularly when Bergeron says it's against what the team stands for. How does a team go against the players' wishes, especially a captain's wishes. This is a guy who is one of the most respected players in the NHL, who has played 1200+ games - all with the Bruins. The fact that it doesn't sit well with Bergeron tells you all you need to know about this signing.
