Anyone who has watched Max Domi play over the years knows that he has a bit of a short fuse, especially when someone messes with one of his teammates. On Sunday, the Chicago Blackhawks played host to the Minnesota Wild and it was the scene of a strange situation involving Domi and teammate Patrick Kane.

During the third period, Kane was engaged in a puck battle along the wall in the neutral zone wen Tyson Jost came streaking through from the blind side, knocking Kane head-first into the boards. The arm went up and Kane seemed to be fine after the hit, but Domi had seen enough, going at Jost full-force, swinging for the fences.

What was so odd about that? Well, when he spotted Domi going right after Jost, Kane actually pursued Domi and tried to hook him with his stick to prevent him from getting to Jost, who had just delivered the hit. It's not every day you see a teammate try to protect the other guys.

Following the game, Kane explained the move, stating that he was merely trying to ensure that the Hawks got a power play out of the ordeal. In the end, Jost and Domi both received 2-minute minors (boarding, instigator) and 5 for fighting. Domi was also slapped with a 10-minute misconduct.

While Kane would have preferred the power play, he still appreciated Domi having his back. He even gave him a first bump at the penalty box for his troubles. Unfortunately, the power play could have come in handy for the Hawks, who ended up losing in a shootout.
