Schenn is set to become a UFA on July 1st and there had been previously reported interest in the Leafs and Schenn finding common ground on a new deal. Schenn was recently on the Donnie and Dhali show in Vancouver and was asked about signing with the Canucks to which he responded by saying, "I have no idea. They have their plans. I enjoyed my time in Vancouver and also with the Leafs and we will see how that shakes out in Toronto."
It would appear that Schenn's first priority is to see if he and the Leafs can come to terms on a new deal. Schenn likely won't cost too much and the Leafs have plenty of cap space to work with so it is very possible the two sides could reach a new deal before he hits the market on July 1st.
Schenn, during his second stint with the Leafs, was very complementary of the organization, often beaming during interviews when asked about being back with the Leafs in the city where it all started. It seems more likely than not that the Leafs and Schenn will reach an agreement. I believe, at this point, that the more intense discussion will be over the term and the AAV.
