Today, ahead of their game against Metallurg Magnitorgorsk, Salavat honoured Amirov by retiring his jersey number 27, raising it to the rafters. His family was in attendance and his father shared a few words.
Following his diagnosis, the Leafs did everything they could to help him fight his cancer and attempt to return to hockey. They helped with medical expenses and treatment and were able to bring Amirov over to Toronto in 2022 to partake in some training camp activities before introducing him to Leafs Nation on opening night as an honourary member of their opening-night roster.
Amirov touched many people throughout his battle and was always making sure his friends and family were okay over the course of his treatments. Amirov always tried to find positivity throughout, even when posting to social media the odd time. He was taken from the hockey community much too soon and our thoughts and prayers are with his friends, family and teammates.
