Following a chaotic matchup between the Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues on Monday, the NHL's Department of Player Safety was busy on Tuesday, going over the game tape and has come to a decision on David Perron's cross-check on Avs forward Nazem Kadri.

Following a whistle in the neutral zone during yesterday's game, Kadri bumped into Perron before taking a hit from behind by Blues winger Pavel Buchnevich. As he was trying to get up, Perron came streaking in from Kadri's blind side and cross-checked him hard in the shoulder, jumped on top of him and threw a few punches for good measure. This, of course, in retaliation for the bump. Here's the play in question.

As a result of the play, Player Safety has issued a $5,000 fine to Perron for the cross-check, the maximum allowable under the current CBA. Given the fact that this was a retaliatory act, there are many who are of the belief that this should have been a one-game suspension for Perron.

The tension in this series reached an all-time high in Game 3 when Kadri collided with Blues defenseman Calle Rosen, which sent both players crashing into Blues G Jordan Binnington, forcing him to miss at least the remainder of the series and possibly much more time due to injury.
