During Saturday's Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Colorado Avalanche and the Tampa Bay Lightning, there was an incident that occurred at the end of the second period where Bolts winger Corey Perry pinned Avs forward J.T. Compher's leg to the ice with the weight of his entire body before pushing himself up off of Compher's knee and kneeling down on his ankle, lifting his other leg off the ice and putting the weight of his entire body on Compher's ankle.
Listen, I'm all for "letting them play" in the playoffs, but if you're going to allow one player to potentially injure another with such an egregious and obviously unnecessary action like the liberty that Perry took on Compher, what are we even doing here?
There are TWO teams left. It's not as though Parros and Player Safety have a lot of work on their hands right now. It's not hard to watch a 7-game series and at the VERY LEAST, issue a fine to a player who does something well outside of the realm of what hockey is, which could have resulted in an opposing player missing time at the most important time of the year.
Is Parros just waiting for people to get hurt before acting? Here's a thought for Parros and "Player Safety"; punish the act, not the result. Perry getting off without so much as a fine for unsportsmanlike conduct is just one more example as to why the NHL is well behind the NFL, MLB and NBA and sits in 4th among North America's 4 major sports leagues.
