There has been much speculation about who the Habs will select first overall on July 7th when they host the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. Even with Kingston Frontenacs center Shane Wright holding top spot on scouting lists, Habs GM Kent Hughes has said in the past they have no idea who they are picking just yet.
Reported by Jean Perron, according to the agent for Simon Nemec, a highly touted prospect in this year's draft, the Habs will be selecting Juraj Slafkovsky over Shane Wright. At 6'4» and 218 pounds Slafkovsky certainly has the size to make an impact in the NHL right away and would provide the Habs with a big-body threat on the left side of Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield.
We're just over 2 weeks from the draft so it will be interesting to see if Montreal shocks the hockey world and lets the consensus number one in Shane Wright fall to New Jersey at #2 or if they pivot and select the Brampton, Ontario native with the first overall pick.
