We're two games into the season and popular radio show host on TSN Overdrive are already saying the Leafs need to be tougher. All three of Bryan Hayes, Jeff O'Neil and Jamie MacLennan believe that the Leafs don't have the toughness to make it through a playoff series because they don't have a guy that will fight or someone that the opposing team will be "scared" of.

According to them, Auston Matthews Mitch Marner and the remaining "core" players want to have fun and not get hit which to Hayes, MacLennan and O'Neil is fine during the regular season. Matthews was second with five hits in the game Thursday night against Washington. Being a tough team to play against doesn't mean the Leafs have to fight every night, it means they have to finish their checks and wear down the opponent.

The Leafs were fifth in hits per 60 last year in the playoffs with 43.9 hits/60 and last season both Matthews and Mitch Marner set career highs in hits. The bottom six is much more difficult to play against than it has been in years and I think we owe it to the team that has played all of 2 games together a little more time before we start calling them "soft".
