Over the weekend, former fifth-round pick and one of the top Maple Leafs prospects, Ty Voit made his pro debut with the Newfoundland Growlers of the ECHL. Voit, who was predicted to begin the season with the AHL's Toronto Marlies, suffered an injury during the Traverse City Prospects Tournament in September and has been out of action since.

Over his two-game debut with the Growlers, Voit registered 4 assists, which were all primary helpers. The weekend games were seen as a conditioning stint for Voit, and today, the Marlies announced that he, along with Grant Cruikshank, and Isaac Johnson have been recalled.

Cruikshank is certainly deserving of an AHL opportunity as he has registered 22 points in 20 games with the Growlers. The undrafted 25-year-old is in his first pro season, following a college career that saw him play at Colorado College, the University of Minnesota and St. Could State.

Johnson has bounced around between the AHL and ECHL since turning pro in 2021 and is in his third season with the Growlers. Through 8 games this season, Johnson has 13 points.

All eyes will be on Voit as he looks to establish himself at the AHL level this week. One of the primary reasons for the call-up, aside from his 4 points in 2 games, is that the Growlers are limited for games this week. Having Voit up with the Marlies ensures that he gets to continue playing and building momentum.
