Rangers have a deal pending for Patrick Kane and the return is much lower than anyone was expecting
After weeks of speculation and a week of the Rangers attempting to clear cap room and roster spots, it appears the Patrick Kane saga is finally coming to an end. Daily FaceOff's Frank Seravalli is reporting that the Rangers and Hawks have come to terms on a deal that will send Kane to the Big Apple for a very underwhelming return.
Seravalli reports that the Rangers are acquiring Kane for a conditional second round pick in 2023 and fourth round pick. The second round pick will become a first round pick if the Rangers win two rounds in the playoffs. While the return is severely underwhelming for Chicago, their hands were tied as Kane held a full no-move clause and with the 3-time Cup winner only really wanted to go to the Rangers, they had all of the leverage in negotiations.
It is unclear how much salary Chicago and a third team will be retaining to help the Rangers fit Kane in under the salary cap, but it will likely be similar to what the Leafs did with Ryan O'Reilly where the Hawks will retain 50% and the third team will retain 50% of the remaining salary (totalling 75% retained).
