Sandin's agent and Kyle Dubas noted that it was Sandin that wanted to end the stalemate after seeing Jordie Benn and Carl Dahlstrom go down with injury Wednesday night which led to Alex Kerfoot and Calle Jarnkrok playing defence. Sandin signed the same deal that the Leafs offered months ago and the same one Timothy Liljegren signed back in June (2 years, $1.4M AAV).
Last night Sandin spoke about the negotiations saying he never felt he was in danger of being traded or being forced to leave town. "There are no hard feelings. I started off my career in the blue and white when i was three years old with Gimo hockey. I'm most comfortable in those colours. I'm wearing blue and white right now and hoping to retire in blue and white."
That last line in specific is good to hear. A young blueliner with the skill set and level of potential that Sandin possesses is a piece that I'm sure the Leafs would love to hang onto for the next 10-15 years.
Sandin should find himself in the lineup for at least two of the Leafs' four remaining preseason games and has every opportunity to earn a top six spot on the Leafs' blueline.
