Earlier on Thursday, we saw the Colorado Avalanche make a move to acquire 26-year-old Alexandar Georgiev from the New York Rangers in exchange for a trio of mid-round picks. We also saw the Buffalo Sabres swing and miss on Matt Murray, who blocked the trade with his NTC. But, according to a report out of Ottawa, he could be an option for the Leafs.
Per Sens reporter Bruce Garrioch, Matt Murray would indeed be amenable to the idea of being shipped off to the Toronto Maple Leafs and would agree to waive his NTC to spend play out the remainder of his contract with the Buds. The problem there doesn't appear to be that there isn't a potential fit, but rather the fact that Murray's contract holds a $6.25M AAV for two more seasons.
If the Sens were open to the idea of retaining some salary on Murray, the deal becomes way more palatable for the Leafs - intriguing even. Matt Murray at, say, $4.25M is definitely an improvement over Petr Mrazek at $3.8M.
