Although Sean Monahan has battled injuries the past few seasons, including having both hips surgically repaired, there is one thing that has never waivered - his character. He hasn't had the opportunity to help his teammates on the ice a lot, but he has always supported them behind the scenes.

Cami Kepke, a reporter for Global News in Calgary shared a story from the 2019 season. During practice one day, then Flames defender T.J. Brodie collapsed and was taken to hospital. While he was being put into the ambulance, Monahan skated off the ice in an attempt to contact Amber, Brodie's wife. She didn't answer his phone call, so Monahan made sure to have his wife knock on the Brodies' door to let her know what was happening. More importantly, Monahan wanted to make sure she found out through a member of the team and not through social media what had happened to prevent any unnecessary panic, since Brodie was okay.
Monahan was and is a class-act and gave his blood, sweat and tears to the Flames faithful and the organization. He unfortunately was unable to live up to his contract because of aforementioned injury issues. Hopefully a move to Montreal and having a healthy off-season will help get his career back on track. Monahan has 1-year left on his current contract that pays him just over $6.3M, so it's going to be a bit of a "prove it" year, which should add to his motivation.
