Scary scene as referee has wrist lacerated by skate blade; game paused as he was rushed to hospital
Team USA's game against Latvia had a pretty scary incidident occur in which a referee suffered a serious injury and had to be rushed to the hospital. Lukas Kohlmueller had been cut by the skate of American Logan Cooley during the first period, leaving his wrist gashed open in a gruesome scene.
Logan Cooley's skate just slashed an officials hand/wrist here and we have an emergency.

I am just stunned. Have never had a feeling like that at a hockey game. It happened right in front of me here and I I've never in my life seen blood come like that. Can't shake it. Just praying he's OK.

In the video below, you can see Cooley collide with the official and the blood begin to spray immediately out of Kohlmueller's wrist and onto the ice. Upon realizing that he had just been cut by Cooley's skate, the referee rushed over to the bench, leaving a trail of blood as he made his way to a team trainer to put pressure on the wound.
Kohlmueller was removed from the arena via stretcher to an awaiting ambulance. Reports on Thursday evening have confirmed that the official is undergoing surgery to repair the damage. These are always scary incidents. Best wishes to the official on his recovery.
