Scary scene on Long Island leads to referee leaving the game; in a strange, roundabout way, it's good news for the Leafs
Last night during the Canes/Isles game, there was a bit of a concerning scene involving referee TJ Luxmore. Luxmore was standing behind the Canes' net, when an Isles forechecker took Brady Skjei off of his feet, sending him sliding feet-first into the official.
Luxmore would leave the game, with Wes McCauley coming in to replace him briefly. There was a great deal of concern for Luxmore, as we have seen a number of pretty nasty skate lacerations in recent years. That was the obvious concern.
Thankfully, Luxmore was able to avoid any serious injury on the play and would return to the game, taking over for McCauley to finish things off.
The good news in all of this, aside from the fact that Luxmore was not seriously hurt, is that since McCauley was on the ice on Long Island last night, it greatly decreases the chances of him having the charge tonight for Game 3 in the Leafs/Lightning series in Tampa.
