He did not play during the 2021-2022 season because he was not signed to a contract but it appears as though the NHL's all time leader in games played, Patrick Marleau could be preparing to announce that he's decided to hang up his skates.

Marleau and the Sharks have scheduled a press conference for Tuesday in regards to the future Marleau's hockey career. Given that Marleau hasn't played an NHL game in over a year, this seems like it could be the end of Marleau's on-ice career.

If this is the end of Marleau's career, he is undoubtedly a Hall-of-Famer. Not only is he the all time leader in games played after he passed Gordie Howe in 2021, but he ends his career with 566 goals and 631 assists. Despite never winning a Stanley Cup, Marleau still won hardware. He won two Olympic gold medals with Team Canada, was the Sharks captain, and was a 3-time All Star.

A storied career could be coming to an end but what a career it was for Patrick Marleau. I'd fully expect the Sharks legend to be taking on some sort of a role within the Sharks organization. Perhaps that will be announced on Tuesday as well.
