Timo Meier, Erik Karlsson and Tomas Hertl woke up and chose excellence for the San Jose Sharks, as the trio combined for 12 points in their matchup with the LA Kings on Monday, despite getting BADLY outshot in the contest.

Hertl, who is in a contract year, has recorded 4 assists in the contest, which brings the 28-year-old's totals up to 35 points in 40 games on the season. If he's trying to make a case for himself remaining a Shark, management better take notice.

Meanwhile, Karlsson enjoyed a 3-assist game of his own through 40, with his 3rd assist of the game also marking the 500th of his very impressive NHL career. The 31-year-old is enjoying a nice rebound campaign with 26 points through 32 games this season, surpassing his totals from last season in 20 fewer games.

The star of the day, however, is Meier. The 25-year-old has notched 5 goals for the Sharks, setting a new team record for most goals in a game by one player in San Jose Sharks franchise history. Meier is the first and only player in Sharks history to score 5 goals in a game.

The huge game for the trio of Sharks comes at a great time for the team, as they are currently fighting for a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. A big win today will put them at 44 points, just 4 points up on the Calgary Flames and 5 points up on the Winnipeg Jets, with both teams having 6 games in hand on the Sharks.

Meier's 5 goals today were the 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th of the season. He is now just 6 goals back of Leon Draisaitl, who leads the league with 26 goals this season.

For the Kings, this loss snaps a 4-game winning streak.
