Sharks to terminate the contract of Evander Kane after his latest indiscretion
In a somewhat shocking turn of events, the San Jose Sharks have decided to terminate the contract of disruptive forward Evander Kane. The news comes just hours after a report out of San Jose confirmed that Kane had been dealing with a particularly rough bout with COVID-19.
The Sharks released a statement on Saturday afternoon from the club's official Twitter account, confirming the news, which had originally been reported by Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman moments earlier.
"The San Jose Sharks have informed Evander Kane that he has been placed on unconditional waivers with intent to terminate his contract for breach of his NHL Standard Player Contract and for violation of the AHL COVID-19 protocols.
"The Club will have no further comment on this matter."
As you'll recall, Kane was suspended 21 games for violating the NHL's COVID-19 protocol and securing a fake COVID-19 vaccination card to avoid having to receive the vaccine.
Breaking the AHL's protocol appears to have been the final straw for the Sharks. Kane was placed on waivers earlier this season and went unclaimed. It's highly unlikely that a team will claim him with the circus that seems to follow him wherever he goes.
