In the dying seconds of the 2nd period of last night's Game 5 between the Leafs and Lightning, Bolts winger Pat Maroon was issued a 2-minute minor for roughing after a brutal, predatory hit on Leafs defender Mark Giordano, which left the veteran blueliner very slow to get up.

Gio would miss a small portion of the third period before ultimately coming back and finishing the game, but Sheldon Keefe wasn't a fan of the hit and remarked on Friday that Maroon has gotten away with a number of these types of plays in the series now.

"In terms of the hit itself, anytime there's hits in the numbers you're concerned with it. There's been a few of those from that player in particular in this series. When you see a player smash his head off the glass, that's a tough look."

Maroon was responsible for a similar hit on Jake McCabe in overtime earlier in the series. Clearly, he is prone to throwing dirty hits and something needs to be done to address it before someone is seriously injured.

Keefe did provide a positive update on Giordano, stating that he believes that Gio is doing okay today, but he did also confirm that the Buds are considering some lineup changes for Game 6 due to a number of players dealing with injuries. It wouldn't be shocking if Gio was one of them.
