Sheldon Keefe eviscerates Leafs following lifeless loss to Kings
Last night was supposed to be a fun Halloween homecoming for the Leafs, as they welcomed the Los Angeles Kings to town. Unfortunately, the Kings had other plans and played the spoiler to the Leafs' bid for a win in their first home game since October 16th.
The Kings outdueled the Leafs in almost every facet of the game and played with a lot more pace and jam on Tuesday, skating away with a 4-1 win. Sheldon Keefe was none too pleased with the effort last night, and rightfully so. He didn't mince his words following the embarrassing loss on home ice.
"We obviously weren't very good. We were flat from the start. We had a couple of surges through the game at different times but nothing sustained. You are climbing out of a hole against a very good and structured team. It is tough sledding.
We need everybody. Even when our top guys are going, you need everybody. We saw the importance of that on the road. We got some good performances from different people. Knies and Domi scored us huge goals to get us points in the comeback in Tampa. That same line with Kampf gets us a huge goal with Giordano in Nashville. You need those kinds of performances for sure. Today, nobody had it."
The Leafs now head back out onto the road for a Thursday matchup against the Bruins in Boston, but after that game, they'll return home for a 5-game homestand against Buffalo, Tampa, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver. Hopefully they learned a thing or two in their loss to the Kings that they can use to help improve their chances over this next stretch of games.
