While most assume that Sid will ride out the remainder of his NHL career in Pittsburgh and retire a Penguin, there are some who believe that Sid would prefer to play for an Original-Six team prior to hanging up his skates - one that resides in Canada.
A report from a source that is rumoured to be close to "Sid the Kid" says that Crosby has indicated that he would enjoy the opportunity to end his career in Montreal with the Canadiens. Now, we don't know who the source is, so that information should be taken with a bit of a grain of salt, but it is worth noting that Crosby played his major junior career in Quebec in the QMJHL, with the Rimouski Oceanic, and absolutely loved his time there.
Whether or not the rumours are true, Crosby is the type of player who I think will control his destiny here. I think if he wants to end his career in Montreal, it will undoubtedly happen one way or another. Crosby is as close to a "national treasure" as you're going to find in Canada. From his 3 Stanley Cups, to his infamous "golden goal" at the Olympics and everything in between, the amount of respect that the NHL and Canada both have for Sid, I think, would pretty much put Sid in the driver's seat here. Whether or not it comes to fruition is another story entirely.
