Tonight they play each other as Kessel reaches a milestone - tying Keith Yandle's Ironman streak with his 989th consecutive game and while Simmonds probably won't play much or at all against Kessel, he will still throw verbal shots at him as he does with anyone. Simmonds did reveal on Monday, however, that he has found it difficult to play "tough" against Kessel throughout his career for a very hilarious reason.
"It's tough. You don't want to laugh when you are playing against him on the ice but he always makes you laugh with that voice of his," said Simmonds this morning at the Leafs' game-day skate. Maybe that's why Kessel has been able to stay so healthy over his career. He's just too easy to like.
If the game is on TNT tonight, hopefully they will be smart enough to mic up Kessel so we can hear some of the things he has to say and see just how much Simmonds is affected by his voice.
