The regular season has only begun but things keep getting worse for wear for the Vancouver Canucks after they announced that star defenseman, Quinn Hughes and former Toronto Maple Leafs blueliner Travis Dermott are listed as week-to-week with an undisclosed injury.

The Canucks are currently sitting dead last in the NHL with an 0-4-2 record after 6 games. They are the only winless team, as the Arizona Coyotes, Anaheim Ducks, and Minnesota Wild all sit ahead of them with one win apiece.

The Canucks started the season blowing 5 games in which they carried a lead. During the first four, they held a 2+ goal lead in each game. They have found the worst ways to lose games and nothing seems to be clicking. Thatcher Demko, one of the more promising young goaltenders in the NHL, is currently sitting with an 0-4-1 record and peripherals of 4.24 GAA and a .858 SV%.

Meanwhile, Hughes had 5 assists in his first 5 games, averaging 27:14 TOI, and 11 shots on goal. He plays in all situations and was essentially the anchor of their defense when several starters fell to injury to begin the season including the aforementioned Travis Dermott, as well as Tyler Myers.

To compound the problem, the Canucks are also expected to be without one of their top scoring wingers in Brock Boeser, as he is also listed as day-to-day. Boeser has a lengthy history of injuries and played just 71 games last season - which is actually a career high for him. His previous career-high for games played was 69, back in 2018-19.

Fans are already throwing jerseys on the ice at home. I can't imagine that losing Hughes for an extended period, as well as Boeser for however long he'll be out, is going to make winning any easier for them.
