At least one media personality, Sportsnet's Steve Dangle, couldn't just sit by idle and listen to the untruths that Sutter was trying to perpetuate. After Sutter's blasphemous comments following last night's huge Leafs win, Dangle took to Twitter to reveal the evidence that disproves Sutter's claims.
As it turns out, over the last 7 seasons, Sutter's Calgary Flames sit 5th overall in the entire NHL in powerplay opportunities per game with 3.11 PP chances per game. Where do the Leafs rank? 28th overall with a lowly 2.80 PP chances per game, tied with the Seattle Kraken and ahead of only the New York Islanders, Anaheim Ducks and Columbus Blue Jackets.
If we're looking at Sutter's playing days, neither the Leafs nor the Blackhawks (with whom Sutter played at the time) appeared to have any sort of an advantage when it came to PP opportunities per game, as the Leafs ranked 15th and the Hawks ranked 18th out of 21 teams, according to Dangle, who pulled the actual stats.
