Monday was a devastating day for Leafs Nation after the announcement came from agent Dan Milstein that 21-year-old Leafs prospect Rodion Amirov had succumbed to his year-and-a-half long fight with brain cancer.

Since Amirov's passing, a number of his Leafs teammates, as well as Leafs President Brendan Shanahan and ex-Leafs GM Kyle Dubas had all publicly commented on the loss of such a bright, young player and person. Now, St. Petersburg SKA has also issued a statement on Amirov's passing. The KHL club also pledged their cash prize from the recent Sochi Hockey Open to Amirov's family.

"The news about the premature death of Rodion Amirov has deeply shocked all of us in our team including the coaches, players and staff members. As you remember, last week SKA won the Liga Stavok Sochi XHL and consequently a million rubles. Today, we took a group decision to send this money to Rodion Amirov's family. Rodion, our friend, we will never forget you!"

Considering what Amirov's family is going through right now, I'm sure that the generous gift from SKA means a lot to them, even during such a dark time. This is just another example of just how much the hockey community cares for one another.
