The Leafs are scheduled to take on the Seattle Kraken tonight in Toronto, with puck drop scheduled to take place shortly after 7PM ET. Meanwhile, the gold medal game between Canada and Czechia is scheduled to take place at 6:30PM ET. While Leafs fans will be able to jump back and forth between games on cable to keep up with each, the players won't have the same luxury. For Mitch Marner, it's a let-down knowing that he and his teammates won't be able to watch the game and cheer on Team Canada because they'll have their hands full with the Kraken tonight.
That's certainly one of the main issues with having a tournament run concurrently with the NHL's regular season. Perhaps, at some point in the future, there will be some discussions on the scheduling of these tournaments. For the time being though, it's tough luck for Marner and the rest of the NHLers who are facing 7pm puck drops of their own while Canada pushes for another WJC gold medal.
