Certainly a concerning scene in Sunrise, South Florida as Dallas Stars goaltender Scott Wedgewood was stretchered off in the team's match up against the Florida Panthers on Thursday night. After making consecutive saves, Wedgewood appeared to be in considerable discomfort. He was unable to make it back to his feet and was reaching for his back, writhing in pain.

In the second period of Thursday's game, Wedgewood managed to stop Panthers center Anton Lundell on two high-scoring chances on a breakaway, sprawling across in full extension to make the saves. In the process, Wedgewood appeared to bend the wrong way and immediately grasped at his back.

Before departing the game, Wedgewood looked solid against a strong offensive team where he had stopped 21 of the 23 shots he had faced before Oettinger took over between the pipes.

With just over six minutes remaining, the Stars were leading 5-2. In his role, the 30-year-old has a record of 3-3-1 through 7 games this season, posting a .903 SV%.

Wedgewood exited the game to a standing ovation at the FLA Live Arena from both Panthers and Stars fans in attendance. We hope that the injury is not severe and that Wedgewood can have a speedy recovery.
