Suspension on the way for Philly's Tony DeAngelo; all hell breaks loose after Tony D spears a Lightning forward in a sensitive area
With just over 2 minutes to go in the third of the Flyers and Lightning game last night, all hell broke loose after Tony DeAngelo and Corey Perry got into a scuffle. Words were exchanged at the top of Andrei Vasilevskiy's crease before DeAngelo decided to get Perry's attention by spearing him in the groin. DeAngelo was then mauled by the rest of the Lightning players on the ice.
He was assessed a major and game misconduct for spearing Perry, who, in all honesty probably deserved it as we all know he has done similar things in the past. Following the game, DeAngelo was asked about the incident.
"He tried to slash my stick out of my hands a second beforehand. He talks all game. I asked him to fight, he doesn't want to fight. He'll tell you he's asked me to fight for years. I don't say no. But wasn't trying to give him a shot there. Replay probably looks worse. I took 30 punches on the ground, so it's whatever," commented DeAngelo.
With DeAngelo receiving a major and game misconduct he may yet also face a suspension. Per an announcement from the Department of Player Safety, DeAngelo will have a hearing later today.
