Terrifying incident in Sweden; player's neck cut open by a skate blade (w/ video)
Caleb Eefting is lucky to be alive after an incident on December 30th that left him with a nasty neck laceration and in need or urgent medical care.
The play occurred after an opposing player was knocked off balance as he entered the neutral zone, causing him to fall with his leg extended. Eefting had leaned forward and attempted to poke the puck loose, which unfortunately happened to leave his neck exposed. You can see the video below
Eefting credits the doctors on site for acting fast and trying to help him remain calm as they attempted to stop the bleeding.
"They put a pressure on my neck and forced me to lie down. To try to stop the blood flow. I felt no pain at all, but when I saw that the sweater and gloves were covered in blood, I was terrified," the 26-year-old toldSwedish news outlet Aftonbladet.
"I kept asking if I was going to die, and they were just trying to calm me down."
A surgical procedure was required to patch the defenseman up, but now he's on the mend and "feeling good", according to his tweet below.
