The Leafs receive some good news on the Nick Robertson front
The Toronto Marlies welcomed former Peterborough Petes standout Nick Robertson back to the ice at Wednesday's practice. Once the Leafs most highly touted draft pick, Robertson has seen his stock fall and his development stunted by a string of injuries - most recently, a broken leg suffered just 2 games into the AHL season after an awkward fall behind the net.
Robertson is still likely a few weeks from playing games again, but him being back on the ice is a fantastic sign that his recovery is going well.
Robertson has played games with the Leafs before, most notably in the bubble playoff series against Columbus in 2020, where he scored 1 goal in 4 games.
Robertson's season has been derailed so badly that it appears highly unlikely that he'll receive a call-up to the big club this season regardless of how he does I'm the second half of the Marlies' season. Letting him get his feet under him in the AHL seems to be the smarter play here in the big picture.
Here's hoping that Robertson is able to stay healthy and enjoy some success with the Marlies down the stretch. If he can keep grinding and getting stronger, it will increase his chances of making an impact at the NHL level as soon as next season!
