The main issue that the Leafs may run into with both players is the fact that they both have some trade protection and would have to waive to accept a deal to Toronto. Ultimately, it will come down to whether or not either of them believes that they can win in Toronto.
The other issue that they might have, at least with Fleury, is the cost of acquisition. Fleury has been in the rumour mill for quite some time, but up until this weekend, we had no idea what the asking price might be on the 3-time Stanley Cup Champion.
Per TSN's Pierre LeBrun on Sunday, the Blackhawks are asking for either a 1st round pick or a prospect of a 1st round level, plus a mid-round draft pick. Considering the fact that the Blackhawks acquired Fleury for free from the Vegas Golden Knights, that's a heck of a turnaround if the Hawks can walk away with multiple assets for Fleury as a rental.
The good news for the Leafs is that if that's the asking price, they have the necessary assets to get a deal done. The question is; would Fleury even accept a trade to Toronto?
